Official testing phase
An official test phase of the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI), as defined in Article 8 of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2156, is a voluntary, non-committal trial period that Member States may carry out to test the common EU SRI scheme under real conditions before deciding on full implementation.
Each Member State defines the arrangements of its test phase (scope, duration, building types, experts involved, whether certificates are issued, etc.) and must notify the European Commission before launching it. At the end, they must submit a report to the Commission within six months, summarising results and feedback.
The Commission supports these phases by providing the assessment framework, facilitating exchanges of good practice, and using the collected feedback to further refine the SRI.
